I've already cast down my bucket where I am. I have no realistic prospects of leaving the country. It's quite possible that the humble but still prospering niche I've carved for myself in the last year is in imminent danger, maybe even at a personal level.

I'll say it. I'm afraid. I knew nothing good could come of this election, but having one particular brand of fascism without even performative opposition to slow down whatever acts of revenge or just outright looting and mayhem it wants to do while the climate crisis accelerates... well, I'll say it again. I'm afraid.

That's the post.

Care-Comrade

All irony and jokes aside, I think a bit of fear is entirely justified and organizing is more important than ever.

I wish the general strike wasn't 2028.

[–] lemmyseizethemeans@lemmygrad.ml 21 points 2 months ago

Absolutely this comrade. Organize unionize strike fucking now

[–] radio_free_asgarthr@hexbear.net 76 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Fucking forced into some accelerationist timeline. Time to find out what Obama could have done with control of all three branches of government if he actually wanted change.

[–] BelieveRevolt@hexbear.net 63 points 2 months ago (5 children)

I can't wait for the ensuing liberal screeds when I point out that Obama could've prevented at least some of the past and future damage done by Trump.

[–] DragonBallZinn@hexbear.net 51 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Obama could have simply never kowtowed to the GOP when that one justice needed to be replaced (I forgot who), and if RBG wasn’t so pig-headed there could have been a 5-4 court in dems favor.

No doubt Thomas and Alito are going to retire, they’re evil not stupid.

Dem Whig 2.0 speedrun

Paraphrasing the partiotism line about "if they took the threat seriously, all of these people (~~Hillary's~~ Kamala's campaign staff) would've been led into a tiled basement with a drain in the floor for this failure"

Real time of monsters hoursgramsci-heh

[–] TerminalEncounter@hexbear.net 50 points 2 months ago (1 children)

It was amazingly stupid that she just picked his campaign managers

[–] LocalOaf@hexbear.net 39 points 2 months ago (2 children)

Didn't she have like two separate teams when she ran in the 2020 primary and they weren't communicating with each other and were fighting each other to book her at different events and her sister was running one of them or something? I remember hearing something about how her 2020 attempt was a total incompetent shitshow with a massive staff turnover

[–] TerminalEncounter@hexbear.net 31 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Amazing. How could she possibly lose.

[–] LocalOaf@hexbear.net 37 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Clearly she was too cool and likable

She dropped out before Iowa and was polling in sixth in her home state behind Andrew Yang lmao

That's who "the adults in the room" decided should be biden-fall's handpicked successor the-podcast

She had a real campaign manager, and her sister was also trying to LARP as a campaign manager:

They did a "Hillary"^["Doing a Hillary" means that a person is so assured of victory that they do not do basic tasks needed to acquire said victory, which results in them losing the competition. See also: The turtle and the rabbit]

[–] ZWQbpkzl@hexbear.net 24 points 2 months ago (3 children)

I don't think they were so assured of their victory. They seemed extremely anxious the entire time because of Hillary. That said they did double down on the same centrist strategy that Hillary did.

[–] REgon@hexbear.net 36 points 2 months ago (2 children)

I dunno, promising nothing at all indicates you are very certain you don't need to promise anything in order to win. Biden lied thru his teeth to get in office.

[–] SkolShakedown@hexbear.net 22 points 2 months ago

the fact they didn't even bother to lie means they tried to lose.

Centrist strategy? No. They ran to the right as far as they can. They didn't even pretend to cater toward the left.

Call me a lib but I’m still doomeristic about the results.

Liberals are so ineffectual that they have fully lost the culture wars. Climate change and pollution will accelerate and make the air much worse, more and more lgbt rights are going to be cut and for eight years straight the GOP has been on fire.

Democrats are officially a third party as far as I’m concerned.

[–] UlyssesT@hexbear.net 48 points 2 months ago (2 children)

A lot of people are going to get hurt more than before, especially those perceived as enemies of the winners of the culture war.

I have nothing funny to say about this. Humor about this escapes me now.

[–] lemmyseizethemeans@lemmygrad.ml 25 points 2 months ago

The only bright side is this may foment an actual hashtag resistance

Yeah, I thought / hoped the democraps would at least keep the congress, but they sucked too much even for that. I'm really not looking forward to a fully chud government.

[–] bdonvr@thelemmy.club 56 points 2 months ago (1 children)

It's so Joever

Fuck Kopmala but this country is just fucked honestly

[–] Findom_DeLuise@hexbear.net 42 points 2 months ago (1 children)
[–] bdonvr@thelemmy.club 42 points 2 months ago

True

Let me rephrase: "this country's slide into unabashed fascism iust got accelerated a few years"

[–] Red_Sunshine_Over_Florida@hexbear.net 54 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (1 children)

I feel for you there. I guess I keep thinking back to what my father says in these situations: "I still have to go to work in the morning."

[–] UlyssesT@hexbear.net 37 points 2 months ago

Life goes on, I suppose... for now. so-far

[–] GenderIsOpSec@hexbear.net 52 points 2 months ago

not to worry the dems will make a rightward turn and punch the non existant left for this failure

[–] TerminalEncounter@hexbear.net 47 points 2 months ago (3 children)

I can only marry one of you to get you in to Canada by sham-marriage

[–] SkingradGuard@hexbear.net 53 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (1 children)

Canada looks like they're gonna elect their own fascist chuds soon anyway... wtf

[–] TerminalEncounter@hexbear.net 26 points 2 months ago (1 children)

We can go to one of the places the settlers don't know or care about like Yukon or NWT

[–] radio_free_asgarthr@hexbear.net 24 points 2 months ago

I'm so jealous of the people who have the money to just pack up and leave. I don't even have a passport. I think that even tho kopmala sucks it's only natural to feel anxiety at what's going on. I'm just buckling up for the ride I guess. ameriKKKa strikes again

[–] lemmyseizethemeans@lemmygrad.ml 44 points 2 months ago (2 children)

I feel you. I'm getting texts from ald friends who are freaking out about the real possibility of fascism.

The center cannot hold..

[–] AmericaDelendaEst@hexbear.net 35 points 2 months ago

wait til they find out the fascism was already here the entire time

[–] Pandantic@midwest.social 41 points 2 months ago (1 children)

This solidified my decision to leave the country. I can’t believe that, with all the shit at stake, we chose to actively oppress ourselves, and honestly I don’t think I can continue to live with the people who did that. While I had already given up hope for this country, I have now truly lost any faith I had left. I guess that’s for the best, in the end. May this hasten the fall, I guess. 🤷🏻‍♂️

"ouuugh i'm moving out of the country im going into the woods" that's great man glad you have all that money in savings, the rest of us dirt poor proles have to stay here and actually try to survive.

[–] UlyssesT@hexbear.net 36 points 2 months ago (1 children)

If you're talking about me, I don't have much of anything left in savings. I can't go anywhere further. Where I am now is all I got and survival is all I can really hope for, at best, and that may just be a matter of how long.

How did the libs fuck it up this bad?! Did they take classes? Did they get a 1910s comedy acting coach? A piece of cheese could have run a better campaign. A piece of pasteurised cheese!

They fucked up so bad they can't even blame us (though they will). They alienated blacks, Muslims, middle easterners of all faiths and creeds, lgbt people, moderate suburbanites, union workers, the Left, and the smallest constituency of the USA, people with souls and human empathy.

JDPON now. Xi, launch, I am no longer asking.

[–] CloutAtlas@hexbear.net 24 points 2 months ago

Every neoliberal that has won in recent memory was because they had the momentum of the masses (often begrudgingly) behind them. And every time they get in power they forsake their actual base and buddy up with the people who should be their enemies.

The Pod Save wine cave brunch Sorkinites don't understand this. The day to day republicans they interact with are going to be Liz Cheney or W. Bush stans, so they're willing to make concessions for them. The working class are either already MAGA poors who are people you make fun of, or begrudging Dem supporters who you take for granted. You think John Podsaveson or whatever his name is has actually ever sat down with IWW union members to hear their struggles? No, it's "well my friend is a registered republican and he thinks Trump is vulgar!" then they spend time and money appeasing that endangered species while the average person drowns.

And that's assuming there isn't an ongoing genocide that the whole world can see.

[–] Philosophosphorous@hexbear.net 26 points 2 months ago

i don't think i have enough kkkash to leave and even if i did i depend on weed to keep myself sane and can't get a job and don't speak anything but english so i don't think there are any options that are any better than amerikkka. i would 'organize' but i am a material/labor/morale burden on anyone around me, normal people don't want to talk to large adult visibly neurodivergent failpersons with resting power-in-misery face. there is no option other than further alienation and isolation and self-censorship (or futile adventurism) in this cursed hellscape for someone like me, but that was true before this election as well.

[–] CthulhusIntern@hexbear.net 21 points 2 months ago

All Kamala had to do was lie and claim to be SO PROGRESSIVE. Obama did that and he landslided both times.

[–] SkingradGuard@hexbear.net 19 points 2 months ago
