Nah the former jocks include finance bros and car dealership owners. You may not think of that as jock labor but they didn’t all go on and become professional athletes.

I don’t have the exact quote but in high school English it was required reading that we read this sci-fi book called Unwind and one of the protagonists actually made this connection.
“There were two types of cops: the bullies who peaked in high school that want to keep reliving their glory days, and people who were bullied that want to oppress undesirables as a misguided way to get revenge on ‘wrongdoers’.” - Unwind (not exact quote just what I vaguely remember.)
But it explains the two types of fascists and those in fash jobs perfectly.

The overlap in personality types between moneyed City of London finance bro trader types, and Silicon Valley start up wanks was startling when I first moved to SF. Engineers just exist to support their pump and dump schemes, and the culture reflects that
Are there any highschool subcultures that are cool now? Speaking from a US perspective:
- Jocks are now finance/crypto bros, or clueless managers.
- Nerds are building bombs or AI or spending their days trying to get people to click on ads.
- Theatre kids are imperialist hamilton libs who think the US is "a nation of immigrants", and not a settler-state based on indigenous eviction.
- Hippies are pacifist color-revolution-supporters.
- Goths are probably eco-nihilists.
- My experience with modern day punks, skaters, and stoners is that they're mostly some kind of libertarian who believe in a lot of reactionary conspiracy theories.
- Hipsters are almost always some flavor of western-chauvinist / white supremacist.
Goths are our best bet. They also have a lot of experience of dealing with anything of a spooky nature.

In a world where everyone is a prep in spirit, be a proud goth.

But I agree most goths are pretty cool.

Yes, I as a zoomer can say so confidently, although the lines arent so strong anymore. A lot nerdy hobbies are also done by the jocks and “jessicas” and the social groups are mixed up more.
Where did all the Greasers go?
These days they're mostly in retirement homes I think.
I was just thinking that everyone who is recognizable to their high school archetype is probably part of the problem.
literally, if all someone does is move along the rails after high school, they likely suck.
the only people from high school who aren't fucked in the dome 20+ years later, are the people who are wildly different humans now and have some life path that can't be quickly understood without interpretation.
also, the people who just plain vanished and don't have any socials could probably be cool.

I work with these people and I was surrounded by their subculture as a child. They all deserve death. It's a very reactionary subculture with strong ingroup identity and hostility towards the outgroup of basically anyone else. The alt-right pipeline was created by these people. They dream of being slave owners.

Americans will divide themselves with little outside input. Under capitalist alienation, they seek to find an in-group with the most asinine qualifications possible. The end product are clothing that says something like "I am a VOLUNTEER FIREFIGHTER born in FEBRUARY who is a SLYTHERIN and likes COFFEE and AIRSOFT"

I think it's perfectly fine to make fun of them for their voluntary association with even ostensibly benign labels.

Nah these days those are nerds too. I have a job where a work with a bunch of vets and most of them are massive fucking nerds who never held a rifle outside of basic.
Anyone who had the pleasure of being in STEM would know that in 1 picosecond.
More specifically TE part. I’ve taken biology classes and usually the bio majors are great people.
Way too many CS bros are just business majors in spirit that are at least smart enough to learn a real skill.
