harriet tubman never held public office!!!! pronouns

the humble gandhi since civ 1: rizz

[–] Z_Poster365@hexbear.net 45 points 2 months ago (2 children)

plus civ 7 is purposefully adding a bunch of leaders that weren't officially national leaders, people like Da Vinci or Benjamin Franklin. It makes added sense since you play as 3 different civilizations throughout the game and your civilization changes but your leader stays the same.

The US doesn't deserve to have someone as heroic as Harriet Tubman to represent it.

[–] Mindfury@hexbear.net 41 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (1 children)

luckily, Civ 7 is kinda doing the Humankind thing and separating the leaders from the civs to some extent

meaning, Harriet Tubman doesn't have to lead the yankoid shitheap afaik

[–] CthulhusIntern@hexbear.net 7 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I know we're getting into more Paradox than Civ here, but I'd like to see it as, if John Brown or Nat Turner succeed, then she's the leader of the new America.

Literally everything Gamergate dipshits said about "SJWs" was projection:

  • They're ridiculously sensitive and easy to offend.
  • They want to force the entire industry to conform to their politics.
  • They're single-minded obsessives who go nuclear the moment a game fails a single one of their myriad purity tests.
  • A large portion of them are tourist outsiders invading the hobby who see it as nothing but a tool to push their political agenda.

“I’ve played every civ game” no you haven’t.

[–] Z_Poster365@hexbear.net 30 points 2 months ago (4 children)

I've played 2, 3, 5 and 6. Never played Civ 1 or Civ 4.

My biggest gripe is not enough USSR leaders

[–] hexaflexagonbear@hexbear.net 21 points 2 months ago

Missed out on Stalin and Mao in Civ4

[–] combat_brandonism@hexbear.net 16 points 2 months ago (1 children)

missed the one civ with a USSR leader lol

[–] GenderIsOpSec@hexbear.net 13 points 2 months ago (2 children)

1 has Stalin, 4 has Stalin and Mao

[–] Z_Poster365@hexbear.net 8 points 2 months ago

just my luck

never played 4

big oof, purists still really pump it up and play it (i've seen people who consider 5 a disgrace and 6 an abomination lmao)

[–] CoolerOpposide@hexbear.net 9 points 2 months ago (1 children)
[–] GenderIsOpSec@hexbear.net 7 points 2 months ago (3 children)

4 would be great with all the mods and shit, but the early 3d graphics shit is ugly and i dont say this lightly.

the awkward move from beautiful 2d to disgusting 3d was a growth period i dont want to revisit.

I played a ton of Civ 5 as a kid/teenager, Beyond Earth was the first game I got burned on buying, played some Civ 6 and like some things like the climate change and natural disasters.

4 is good. Probably my favorite in the series. Refined almost all of the jank out of the early series, hadn't yet introduced the all-new jank that started in 5.

Why is it always the leaders remembered as heroes who are in games? They should add some of the bad leaders as well, Nicholas II, the most inbred of the Habsburgs, Gorbachev, Liz Truss, all the kings with names like "Hunger" and "the Mad".

[–] Z_Poster365@hexbear.net 10 points 2 months ago (2 children)

they all have to be pretty ancient. Can't really have Hitler or Trump or Obama without enraging a bunch of the playerbase

[–] merthyr1831@lemmy.ml 16 points 2 months ago

they used to have Mao in civ 4 :(

[–] GrosMichel@hexbear.net 15 points 2 months ago (2 children)

If they put Obama in the next Zelda game I'm gunna' be pissed.

Sometimes I remember I'm not entirely unintelligent. Reading these comments really reminds you of the utter smoothness of most westerners brains

[–] DragonBallZinn@hexbear.net 23 points 2 months ago

It’s even a joke I have with myself. One second this is my internal monologue:

“Oh come on, Zinn. You should feel lucky material conditions happened the way they did where you found the left before fascism found you! You’re not immune to propaganda, you got lucky it’s not your big brain!”

Reads a comment section

“On second thought, maybe it is your big brain that allows you to handle the truth.”

[–] FunkyStuff@hexbear.net 25 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Ok, Harriet Tubman is great, but I'm still not playing as Amerikkka when qin-shi-huangdi-fireball is right there.

[–] schlongjohnson@hexbear.net 26 points 2 months ago (1 children)

leaders are detached from civs this go round, so you could have china ruled by tubman

[–] FunkyStuff@hexbear.net 26 points 2 months ago (4 children)

Oh wait, that's awesome. Sounds pretty cool, can't wait to pirate it.

I like Tuabman and I like diversity in my games but I hate the implication that the USA is sufficiently not fascist and white supremacist to have her as a leader.

[–] Z_Poster365@hexbear.net 20 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (2 children)

in the civilization universe, all civilizations are a blank slate that start during the early agrarian era. They don't yet pick an ideology or colonize others or do anything at that point. Also, in civ 7 she can be the leader of any civilization, leaders aren't bound to specific civs

That's how I justify it to myself at least, it falls apart upon any introspection but that's how it goes with a silly 4x game with hammers and beakers

[–] kittin@hexbear.net 7 points 2 months ago

Yeah for sure I don’t actually object to this.

[–] shath@hexbear.net 6 points 2 months ago (1 children)

"fascism is just more industrial resource and nothing else!!!" i do not like modern civ games

[–] Z_Poster365@hexbear.net 7 points 2 months ago (2 children)

I agree it should have some type of penalties, but it’s hard to implement fascism if you aren’t willing to include dirty historical realities like genocide and ethnic cleansing and colonialism.

I understand why Civ doesn’t want to allow naziboos to roleplay as a genocidal maniac in their game

[–] merthyr1831@lemmy.ml 8 points 2 months ago (3 children)

Big news for people with enough time and money to play civ 7

[–] godlessworm@hexbear.net 17 points 2 months ago

"oh but if i said hitler should be a leader in civ then i would be called a nazi. ok i see how it is. still waiting for my white privilege check"

[–] TheVelvetGentleman@hexbear.net 17 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Look, I understand that people are upset, but she's crossing her arms in the picture. We haven't had a chance to oggle her cans. She could have F cups under there.
