DEInonychus, the dinosaur velociraptor wishes it could be.

[–] GalaxyBrain@hexbear.net 7 points 1 month ago

Velociraptor is really cool in it's own right. It was like a falcon that jumped off of cliffs instead of flying. Just cause J park got s. Wrong doesn't mean they aren't still really cool.

I've gotten back into being a dinosaur guy and T Rex is a legit choice. T Rex was a fucking COOL animal and the more modern Intel we have just shows it to be cooler and cooler. They absolutely deserve their name

I love the spinosaurs despise all the changes,

I also like the mapusaurs

[–] GalaxyBrain@hexbear.net 6 points 1 month ago

Spinos are neat! I think thr modern image is pretty cool too. Picturing dinos in general more as animals cause they were just that instead if thinking of how cool they'd be as movie monsters is so much more fun to think about. Spinosaurus is a great example. So much cooler to think of things like that wading around and chomping huge fishies

[–] SpiderFarmer@hexbear.net 10 points 1 month ago

I like the guys with the club tails. Otherwise my favorite dinosaurs are the things that technically aren't, like plesiosaurs, crocodiles, and icthyosaurs.

[–] FourteenEyes@hexbear.net 10 points 1 month ago (6 children)

Allosaurus because they're like T-Rex but cooler and they have three fingers and they were actually predators their whole lives instead of being the Cretaceous equivalent of Yogi Bear

[–] GalaxyBrain@hexbear.net 6 points 1 month ago

Don't talk about Yogi like that

For carnivore, Dilophosaurus (the real one not the Jurassic Park bozo), cool crests, not too big not too small size, nice shape

For herbivore, Parasaurolophus because dang, look at that cutie. I wanna ride one and get my ears blown out by the deafening toot it may or may not have produced sans-doot

[–] buckykat@hexbear.net 10 points 1 month ago

ligmasaurus

[–] Castor_Troy@hexbear.net 9 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

Triceratops. First off, they're herbivores. Second, they look really cool with horns and a beak. There's not much we know about them, but I think it's cool that their horns may have mostly been used to identify each other and they were likely quite social. I'm imagining them being something like a dinosaur version of a bison, which is incidentally my favorite mammal.

[–] GalaxyBrain@hexbear.net 9 points 1 month ago

They also fucking killed T Rexes on the regular.

Carnotaurus. Just very pleasing to look at with its baby arms and horns.

The ankylosaur clade is my fave Euphocephalus is my fave from that.

But I really really gotta hand it to Triceratops. I don't think people get how badass they were. Dirt_owl has common faves. I like Baryonyx as well, they were just like...the workhorse predator of the cretaceous. No flash, pretty good at the job but not doing T Rex shit. Just a neat dude. And also non JPark velociraptors with the Intel we have now are cool af in a different way. Half bird of prey half mountain goat

[–] Blakey@hexbear.net 7 points 1 month ago

modern theropods are pretty great, I like the splendid fairywren and willy Wagtails a lot. Australian Magpies are cool too.

[–] Mari@hexbear.net 7 points 1 month ago

Ankylosaurus. One of my kids was a dinosaur kid and used to ask if I thought ankylosaurus could beat tyrannosaurus in a fight and I said of course, you can't bite through his back. He would then say the T-Rex would just flip the ankylosaurus over and eat him. This entire exercise was after he had internalized that "Dad's favorite dinosaur is the ankylosaurus" and I think it was directly because of that.
