Théophile Ferré was a leader of the Paris Commune who was executed by the French government on this day in 1871. Ferré personally authorized the execution of the archbishop of Paris and was the first of 25 Communards to be executed.

Little is known about Ferré's early life, before his participation in the Paris Commune. After Paris was seized by revolutionaries in March 1871, Ferré served on the Commune's Committee of Public Safety, a body given extensive powers to hunt down enemies of the Commune.

On April 5th, the Commune passed a decree that authorized the arrest of any person thought to be loyal to the French government in Versailles, to be held as hostages. Prominent figures arrested included a Catholic priest Georges Darboy and the archbishop of Paris. The Commune hoped to exchange their hostages for Louis-Auguste Blanqui, a revolutionary and honorary President of the Commune, imprisoned by the state.

Following the events of the "Bloody Week", in which the French government summarily executed many suspected Communards, Ferré authorized the execution of several hostages, including Darboy and the archbishop.

After the resistance of the Commune collapsed, Ferré was captured by the army, tried by a military court, and sentenced to death. On November 28th, 1871, he was shot at Satory, an army camp southwest of Versailles. He was the first of twenty-five Communards to be executed for their role in the Paris Commune.

find a new armorsmithing channel

it's good and informative, but there are just a couple little things that set off my hitler-detector

things so minor I wonder if I'm not reading too much into it, just the guy's general vibe and appearance (skinny long haired white dude with beard, definitely medeivalist type), along with his choice to only make recreations of historical medieval armor or mandalorian stuff. Seems a little normalcore for such a skillset, but whatever.

Another time i see him in a shirt with a stylized nordic cross. Okay, deep orange to red flag, but maybe he's just one of those classic power metal dumbguys we all love.

see a youtube post from his channel

"Today we commemorate the victims of the Holdomor..."

Oh hitler-detector, I should never have doubted you.

As both a chemist and a quality control veteran who frequently cooks and bakes new things, I will never get over how unhinged American recipes are.

Using volume to measure solids is straight-up cursed. The density of even "identical" ingredients can vary dramatically, the only reason we kind of get away with it is that most of our sugar and flour is probably coming from the same few processing facilities that just happen to be using similar-sized mesh screens on their packaging lines. How do you measure a cup of blueberries? A cup of large blueberries is going to be like 1/2 to 2/3 the weight of a cup of small blueberries. You know what's always the same? 300 grams of blueberries. You can get a cheap food scale for pennies more than a set of measuring cups, there's no excuse for this bullshit anymore.

Then you have ounces, which we have chosen to make a unit of measurement for both volume and mass, for some reason. A cup is 8 fluid ounces, we already have commonly available measuring cups down to 1/4 cup, and 1/8 cup is 2 tablespoons (lmao) so the fluid ounce has no reason to exist aside from intentional confusion.

My brother in Christ, why would you name two precise units of volume, tablespoon and teaspoon, after things that already exist in everyone's silverware drawer that have not been standardized in size? Were people just not doing any critical thought when all of these "official" decisions were made?

What a breath of fresh air, just saw a tik tok from a college student telling kids they don’t belong in college if they can’t write an essay without chatgpt. The more I think about this extremely powerful and extremely unregulated tool, the more radical I become.

Glad to see that some young people’s brains haven’t been completely destroyed by the algorithm

[–] Rojo27@hexbear.net 15 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

It's kind of scary how much kids seem to have jumped on the AI bandwagon in so far as using it as a "learning" tool. I've got a coworker that's in college and he's always talking about using AI to study and do course work and at one point even for training modules at work. And then yesterday a cousin of mine that is in college was talking about how he used chatgpt to type a paper and got flagged for plagiarism. So yeah, it's good to see that there are people out there telling others not to use AI for learning.

I feel like I'm being subjected to a podcast bit with my bluesky experience, the discover feed just keeps showing me like gay guy thirst traps and I feel like this literally is not something I've ever heard anyone mention?

Like I just keep getting guys taking selfies in their underwear or accounts named shit like "chicago daddy dom", and of course there's nothing wrong with that costanza-maoist (<- only seinfeld emote I could find)

But I just don't wanna see these guys and their underwear on my feed all the time, and I don't know how to tell this app that without just making a giant blocklist of just gay guys, which in itself feels like a modern seinfeld subplot kind of problem.

Had a dream that I was back in high school and we had Trump as a substitute teacher and he kept asking individual students if they wanted to "buy his NPC". None of us knew what he was talking about and it eventually turned out he was selling a Trump voice pack for Siri for $45 each.

Outside of this happening in a school setting for some reason, I found this to be a weirdly coherent bit. Shoutout to random brain noise.

I decided to search reddit for opinions about styling a beret just for fun, and I have two observations that I suspect may be linked.

  1. Reddit menswear posters absolutely despise berets and say that you can only wear one if you are in the military, literally french, or 80 years old.

  2. There are a lot of Asian and Black men who look really good in berets, particularly a ton of Black artists seem to rock the beret.

I cannot confirm for sure if reddit-logo fashion posters are just extremely racist or not, but chances seem high.

FUCK CARS

I brought my car in for a winter tire change at 8am as scheduled and it's now 5pm and it's STILL NOT DONE and I just want to go the fuck home and get some sleep after getting almost none last night. I have been trying to kill time in warm places and I am so wired on coffee as a means to rent table space in cafes all goddamn day when my normal coffee intake is one normal-sized cup in the morning, and decaf is NOT noncaf. So fucking sick of car shit. Just let me go the fuck home.
