Lol, getting mad about the important things as always.

Apparently they've been saying the blue guy had his balls out or some shit? I didn't see anything like that. Bro was wearing blue modesty shorts as far as I could tell.

[–] CommCat@hexbear.net 7 points 1 month ago

intentional from the ruling class, keep everyone engaged in the culture war.

[–] Infamousblt@hexbear.net 50 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Rainbow capitalism annoying both the right and the left apparently

[–] someone@hexbear.net 45 points 1 month ago (2 children)

I used to get annoyed by rainbow capitalism. But I guess I'd rather have that than anti-rainbow capitalism.

[–] Infamousblt@hexbear.net 45 points 1 month ago (2 children)

It honestly doesn't matter much either way. Rainbow capitalism isn't actually doing anything to protect us. If anything anti rainbow capitalism is at least being more honest in its intention

[–] ZoomeristLeninist@hexbear.net 40 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (2 children)

real. sometimes i think rainbow capitalism makes ppl more reactionary. like yeah, it makes LGBT ppl less likely to be anti-capitalist but it also promotes the association between LGBT ppl and capital, so the right can appeal to working class ppl with the “gay elites” rhetoric. its another way to divide and conquer the working class.

it sounds rlly bad to say “rainbow capitalism is making ppl homophobic and transphobic”, but rainbow capitalism is an essential tool for the ruling class in keeping the workers fighting amongst themselves

even before rainbow capitalism, “anti-rainbow capitalism” was used to create a scapegoat. now the right libs have LGBT as a scapegoat and the center libs have bigots as a scapegoat (a good enemy to have, but we should be trying to educate workers who lack class consciousness to rid them of their reactionary tendencies instead of seeing them as enemies). ultimately, it should be the privileged (straight, cis, white, male) comrades who educate reactionary workers, but there are so many “communist” pretenders (patsocs, ultras) who make that difficult. the ruling class has turned the difficulty up to “legendary“

[–] Infamousblt@hexbear.net 32 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I mean you even see union leadership now saying shit about how DEI is the reason workers aren't getting raises. It's terrible shit.

[–] ZoomeristLeninist@hexbear.net 26 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

yeah, that teamsters leader talked at the trump rally. it’s getting way too close to the nazi arc. trump even has gay supporters that he’ll probably night of the long knives. i hate that libs have taken all the sting from the trump/hitler comparison bc 8 years ago he was nearly identical to the average republican. it’s the appeal to the national working class that really sets up the american reich. that and the fall of empire. look out for a few years when the US loses control of the middle east and possibly Africa

[–] Infamousblt@hexbear.net 16 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I think the American Fascist arc will probably exclude wealthy white gays from the persecution. American fascism will always make exceptions for the wealthy, and they'll use those exceptions as evidence that they aren't actually prejudiced. As if letting a few white wealthy guys live somehow makes up for all the other evil they'll be doing

[–] EmmaGoldman@hexbear.net 7 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Sure, but it's going to spare David Geffen and Peter Thiel, not your local lesbian orthopedic surgeon or the gay couple that owns six McDonald's franchises or even your bisexual landlord who owns 62 buildings in a major metro area.

[–] Infamousblt@hexbear.net 5 points 1 month ago

My only hope is that the fascists don't even consider Pete Butt judge as sycophantic enough for them.

[–] Sulvor@hexbear.net 13 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Idk why but picturing frothingfash super upset about 'gay elites' is so funny to me

[–] ZoomeristLeninist@hexbear.net 13 points 1 month ago

oh yeah, it’s fr funny bc of how ridiculous it is

[–] someone@hexbear.net 14 points 1 month ago

The problem is the capitalism, not the rainbow. If it wasn't the rainbow, the capitalists would just find some other thing to use as a wedge issue.

[–] TemutheeChallahmet@hexbear.net 8 points 1 month ago

I agree, I am sick of edgelords who never lived in a time where an actor could lose their livelihood for being outed bagging on rainbow capitalism like it's nothing. It's usually shit but it is still not nothing.

[–] AcidSmiley@hexbear.net 40 points 1 month ago

I wouldn't even call it rainbow capitalism when a transphobic shit org like the IOC is involved and the number of openly gay dudes among the athletes is so laughably low because homophobia is still rampant in pro sports.

[–] ProfessorOwl_PhD@hexbear.net 42 points 1 month ago (2 children)

I didn't watch the opening ceremony but I assume it wasn't even actually queer, it was the french just being french.

[–] Hugh_Jeggs@lemm.ee 23 points 1 month ago (1 children)

They had a catwalk with 50% gorgeous models and 50% fabulous trans models

The french loved it, the religious weirdos in the States went a bit mental

[–] ProfessorOwl_PhD@hexbear.net 24 points 1 month ago

oh no, the last bastion of cisheteronormativity
that straightest of institutions

Fashion

[–] StalinStan@hexbear.net 7 points 1 month ago

They had a queer threescore as well. You didn't get to see the effile tower but it was implied

[–] TerminalEncounter@hexbear.net 34 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I don't know what they were expecting, they don't exactly have high opinions of France and Paris

[–] buh@hexbear.net 17 points 1 month ago

Chuds: Europeans and especially the french are gay! frothingfash

French people: does something gay

Chuds: Noooo, why would you possibly do something like this?! wojak-nooo It must be the woke mind virus!

[–] brainw0rms@hexbear.net 30 points 1 month ago

"sir how do we make everyone forget that we're making people swim in seine river which is literal raw sewage and pollution"

"make the rest of the olympics really gay"

"brilliant as always sir"

If you don't piss off Matt Walsh then you've truly created nothing of value. He's like the lowest barrier for entry to figuring out if something has the potential for being interesting.

[–] EmmaGoldman@hexbear.net 8 points 1 month ago

Anything that doesn't upset him is definitionally not art.

[–] TheDoctor@hexbear.net 27 points 1 month ago

I saw the queer throuple slamming the door on the camera and was like, “my brother in law’s gonna love that”

[–] Red_Sunshine_Over_Florida@hexbear.net 27 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Did I miss something. My dad was only complaining about all the rich people there and my mom thought the Israeli delegation was booing when the MC tried to make a token appeal to some sort of world peace.

[–] MelianPretext@hexbear.net 23 points 1 month ago (1 children)

The opening ceremony was mediocre though obviously not for the reasons the chuds gnash their teeth. I've binged all the ceremonies back during the pandemic. London 2012 was more of a spectacle even with its typical amnesia of the role of colonialism during its industrial revolution performance, Rio 2016 had much more soul and character, Beijing 2008 is still the unbeatable standard; all of them had a more organized structure than Paris' "tourism ad skit" of Haussmann's old buildings along the Seine. The Parade of Nations is typically meant to give full attention to the athletes and so the constant interruptions to splice in perfomances were obnoxious. I will say that the hot air balloon flame cauldron, reminiscent of those balloons in the old Paris World Fair posters, is a rather unique idea that was also executed fairly well, unlike the boat parade.

The LGBT representation was just one part of Macron's overall rebranding campaign of France's image as an "progressive nation boldly confronting its past" as a theme that permeated the entire ceremony. Seeing that Louise Michel statue description on how she was "exiled to New Caledonia and fought against French colonialism" was quite a satirical display of how superficial Macron's "Brand France" is given the current French colonial occupation and the military troops stationed to squash the still ongoing New Caledonian indigenous protests taking place since May.

Them: the opening ceremony is satanic!! frothingfash

Me: wtf is this a fucking jojo reference

"queer" no this is just how the French are

[–] Vampire@hexbear.net 17 points 1 month ago

tbh even I thought it was surprisingly gay

[–] LaGG_3@hexbear.net 11 points 1 month ago

They don't call it "Straight Paree" now do they?

[–] yuli@hexbear.net 9 points 1 month ago

the whole satanic panic about a bunch of tree-hugging vegans is also very funny to me, it’s gojira ffs

[–] AssortedBiscuits@hexbear.net 8 points 1 month ago

It's just more pinkwashing imo. Between this and the French banning their athletes from wearing the hijab, it's all completely cynical. With the genocide in Gaza, I can't help but feel this will be weaponized against Palestinians because let's face it, the average person who sympathizes with the Palestinians will be both outraged by the banning of the hijab and completely turned off by the queer parts of the ceremony. This is continuing the process of queer people being weaponized as a tool of Western imperialism and reactionaries using anti-imperialism as an excuse to be queerphobic. And the biggest joke in this tragicomedy is that the West isn't even that good for queer people either.

[–] daniyeg@lemmy.ml 7 points 1 month ago

yep. i saw some anti-government opposition type person tweet something along the lines of "this filth is the result of bending the knee towards islamists and leftists. people of the world will either eradicate this infection or the leftists will step by step ruin any event or concept imaginable. they should open up mental hospitals with the capacity in the millions to put them there." great democratic opposition we have here.

also i mean this in the best way possible, i don't know what the deal with the kid that was there was but they shouldn't have been there. this is just giving chuds more ammo for their bullshit.

Good, maybe some of them will have strokes and die.
