Why has Trump of all people become the right wing messiah? He's literally a wet fart in human form

There’s a phrase I once heard to describe Trump, that he’s America’s biggest Small Business Owner, and that sums up why these people fawn over him. Conservatives fundamentally love hierarchy and they want capitalists at the top of that hierarchy, but their vision of the ideal capitalist is not the credentialed CEO reporting to a board representing a collective sea of rich investors, their vision of the capitalist class is a hierarchy of bigger and bigger sea-doo dealership owners.

The branding of Trump gives them that, that he’s the founder-owner-operator making all the big boy decisions on how to run his company, not a pencil-neck brigade of corporate bureaucrats. To them, he is the correction back to the “real” capitalism and capitalist class.

this

He embodies the failson mythology that they love via MAGA

He is the avatar of their opposition to the neolib hellscape they mislabel as socialism/communism, etc. If your ideology is based in Calvinism, anti-communism and anti-woke, then he checks off a lot of boxes.

no one has ever accused evangelicals of being smart or internally consistent with their beliefs

[–] Runcible@hexbear.net 51 points 1 month ago (4 children)

Maybe 15 years ago I knew someone working on their doctoral thesis for theology & they commented to me that American Protestantism was more about white supremacy than Christianity. It's always stuck with me.

[–] Florn@hexbear.net 21 points 1 month ago

I had to learn this on my own while surrounded by it

[–] porcupine@lemmygrad.ml 11 points 1 month ago

the largest US protestant denomination formed specifically to defend slavery. it's still the largest today.

[–] Frank@hexbear.net 9 points 1 month ago

Yeah. They literally edited a special bible for evslaved people that removed all talk of liberation and equality before god. American Christianty, Baptists and Evangelicals and other Christian Fascists, was very literally and deliberately created as a tool to enforce white supremacy and keep slaves under control.

He's literally a wet fart in human form

He is America personified, being a wet fart is just a consequence of this.

[–] miz@hexbear.net 37 points 1 month ago (1 children)

because he embodies the contradictions within the party

[–] Flocklesscrow@lemm.ee 35 points 1 month ago

Because he gives them permission to be their worst selves- to reveal the parts that "polite society" has demanded they hide.

Nothing a pig loves more than rolling in shit.

[–] penetantkulak@hexbear.net 34 points 1 month ago (3 children)

I grew up in an evangelical church and this kind of thing is completely normal lol. I remember doing this for some missionaries who came to visit from Africa

[–] Frank@hexbear.net 28 points 1 month ago

I was sitting by myself in a ramen joint and got drive-by faith healed by some Evangelical kids. Like, nice kids, but going around trying to do magic to random people i reflects the bizarre ideas they have about proselytizing.

[–] doublepepperoni@hexbear.net 13 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

I see shit like this and I get similar feelings to an HP Lovecraft protagonist peering through a bush at slavering cultists performing some kind of hideous ritual

[–] tactical_trans_karen@hexbear.net 12 points 1 month ago

Same, this is normal for them.

[–] Assian_Candor@hexbear.net 28 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I heard somebody say once that evangelicals don't believe Christianity is the last best hope for America, they believe America is the last best home for Christianity. I think that put it into perspective for me. That while some American Christians, nominally Catholics, will somewhat acknowledge some other parts of the world as being Christian, or having a population of Christians, Evangelicals do not believe this. For evangelicals The only time Christians exist outside of America is when they're oppressed minorities in China, or middle eastern Christians being beheaded by isis. Evangelicals have made American civil religion part of Christianity much in the way pagan festivals were co-opted by early Christians to ease conversion.

[–] Belly_Beanis@hexbear.net 23 points 1 month ago (3 children)

A lot of evangelicals will accuse catholics of being non-Christians. It's rooted in old school anti-Irish, anti-Italian racism. They will weaponize denominations against other minority groups when it suits them, only to turn around and claim those people when (like you said) it's some other country doing something.

[–] UlyssesT@hexbear.net 18 points 1 month ago (2 children)

A lot of evangelicals will accuse catholics of being non-Christians.

One of the most exhausting and repetitive stupid questions I'd get asked by fundies in the past was "are you Catholic or Christian?"

[–] Frank@hexbear.net 16 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Yeh. It's so weird. Yeah, guy, your tiny little splinter of a splinter of a schismatic micro-church lead by a failed ski-doo salesman facing criminal fraud charges is definitely the one true faith that reflects the will of god.

[–] SevenSkalls@hexbear.net 7 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

My mom would ask my girlfriends this... 😑

But with the emphasis going the other way basically because we're raised Catholic.

[–] UlyssesT@hexbear.net 7 points 1 month ago

It sucks when fundie brainworms get picked up and used by non-fundies.

[–] Frank@hexbear.net 8 points 1 month ago

Yeah, mainline protestants are mostly reconciled with the church, but Christian Fascists and their TradCath cronies think papists, and most mainline protestants, are puppets of Satan.

The United States is full of bubble world fundies that don't consider Christians outside of the bubble world to truly exist in a meaningful way.

They live in a special hell-heaven on Earth that's straight out of a Soundgarden music video.

[–] Frank@hexbear.net 23 points 1 month ago

He's an extremely wealthy white man who tripped ass forward in to wealth and power, he owns the libs, and he openly commits sexual violence and gets away with it. For Christian Fascists that is basically their Messiah. When you combine the prosperity gospel with fox news brain, patriarchy, and white supremacy then Trump starts to look a lot like god.

[–] Vernon_Tennessee@hexbear.net 22 points 1 month ago (1 children)

The secret is that liberals love to talk about him more than anyone else. And the more you tell these kinds of people "not to do something " the more theyll want to do it. So when liberals talk about how "dangerous" or whatever he is, theres about half the country who thinks its cool or edgy and votes for him out of spite.

If supposed Trump haters stopped talking about him for a solid 6 months after 2020, then its likely he wouldnt have made it past the primary.

[–] crusa187@lemmy.ml 13 points 1 month ago

Wish these idiots could learn that lesson. This election season has been 2016 on steroids for free negative press on Trump.

[–] MaoTheLawn@hexbear.net 18 points 1 month ago

sometimes things are worth material analysis

sometimes you can just put it down to lead poisoning

[–] ItalianMessiah@hexbear.net 17 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Because he was the first in a while to really give red meat to the base. Smarter Republicans view him as a necessary evil in order to rile up support. Then he presided over a relatively okay economy and gave financial support during the pandemic. Most reps view him as a reminder of the pre-pandemic economy who actually tried to appeal to the base. This was done through racism and social issues of course but that's enough.

There's also something to be said about his anti-charisma. It's like the McDonalds dinner for the football guys that twitter liberals went crazy over. Even though it was pretty weird, the average person still likes their McTreats and liberals shitting on it makes them seem out of touch. Donald Trump's weirdness and anti-charisma reflects the average American. Every attack on his weirdness backfires and mainstream liberals are too brain-broken to try to convince people on policy.

He broke their brains in 2016-2020 and now he literally can't do any wrong because people hate to admit they were wrong.

[–] 2Password2Remember@hexbear.net 26 points 1 month ago (1 children)

mainstream liberals are too brain-broken to try to convince people on policy.

i agree with everything in your post except this. mainstream liberals are too similar to Trump in terms of policy to try to convince people on policy. their whole value prop comes down to "we'll do all the genocide and racism you want but without any of the nasty impoliteness the republicans insist on"

Death to America

[–] FALGSConaut@hexbear.net 10 points 1 month ago

I think you really hit the nail on the head there. The democrats and republicans have no dramatic difference in policy, abortion is one difference that comes to mind but Dems have proved they won't protect it so they can't really lean on that.

So they have to focus on culture war and aesthetics because they're the same party when it comes to arming Israel, sealing the border, denying healthcare, and generally being the party(ies) of the rich ruling class

[–] viva_la_juche@hexbear.net 15 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

I said something to my mom about how Trump rolled back a lot of fda regulations and that’s part of why we’re having so many issues with food and stuff now. She said “that doesn’t sound like something Trump would do!” And I was like “mom, he’s a wealthy idiot born in a wealthy family he doesn’t give a fuck about working class Americans. All he does is for business people in his class” and her only response was “well I guess you think Kamala does” lmao no?

It's just because he's really racist and they like the racism.

Remember back when these dorks were all loosing their minds about appropriating (incorrectly identified) holy christian imagery during the paris olympics?

yeah...

5 And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.

6 But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.

7 But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.

8 Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him.

Matthew 6:5-15 KJV

He pays enough lipservice to evangelicals to garner their support. Its anecdotal but the evangelicals in my family, who aren't even from the US, post clips of him talking about the importance of the Bible and religion in schools, etc.

[–] macabrett@lemmy.ml 8 points 1 month ago

Complete aside, but I have a hard time taking anyone seriously when that generic corporate carpet is in the photo.

Also, I can't take them seriously for everything else in the photo either.

[–] PolandIsAStateOfMind@lemmygrad.ml 8 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Why not? I seen way more baseless cults of personality, for example pope John Paul 2 was so bland that even a wet fart would be immense progress, and he still had massive cult.

There's a lot going on in this photo

[–] Lussy@hexbear.net 8 points 1 month ago

I feel like it’s become a self-fulfilling prophecy. I never thought Trump was funny or charismatic until people couldn’t stop bleating on about, and now, somehow I see it.
